National Historical and Memorial Reserve “Babyn Yar” Hosts Amaro Kino Screening on 2 August
The European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC) is pleased to support the screening of Amaro Kino at the Living Memory Film Club of the National Historical and Memorial Reserve “Babyn Yar” in Kyiv, Ukraine, on the occasion of 2 August, European Roma Holocaust Memorial Day.
Presented as part of the public programme “Research Space” the screening invites audiences to commemorate the day through contemporary Romani cinema.
Amaro Kino is ERIAC’s travelling short film programme showcasing recent works by emerging Roma filmmakers and collaborators. The 2026 edition features four short films:
- The Angry Bird, directed by Jack Lilleywhite (United Kingdom, 2025)
- The Exhibition, directed by Dáša Raimanová and Béla Váradi
- The Gift, directed by Lara Izagirre Garizurieta (Spain, 2025)
- Fifteen Minutes, directed by Sejad Ademaj (Germany, 2022)
Moving between documentary and fiction, the films explore different facets of Roma life and experience across Europe, from personal journeys of identity and artistic expression to everyday realities and the challenges many Roma families continue to face. Together, they offer audiences an opportunity to encounter contemporary Roma perspectives through authentic and compelling storytelling.
The Kyiv screening forms part of ERIAC’s ongoing commitment to supporting and promoting Roma voices in film by creating opportunities for these works to reach audiences through festivals, cultural institutions, and public programmes across Europe. By presenting stories created by a new generation of filmmakers, Amaro Kino contributes to the growing visibility and diversity of Roma narratives in European cinema.
