AMARO KINO Puts Romani Stories on Screen at Kyiv International Short Film Festival

The European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC) presents AMARO KINO, its travelling short film programme, at the Kyiv International Short Film Festival on 22 September, connecting audiences with recent works by emerging Roma filmmakers and collaborators.

Now in its 2026 edition, Amaro Kino showcases four short films that move between documentary and fiction to explore different facets of Roma life and experience across Europe: from personal journeys of identity and artistic expression to moments of everyday life and the realities many Roma families continue to face.

The selection includes “The Angry Bird” by Jack Lilleywhite, “The Exhibition” by Dáša Raimanová and Béla Váradi, “The Gift” by Lara Izagirre Garizurieta, and “Fifteen Minutes” by Sejad Ademaj. Together, the four films offer distinct perspectives from a new generation of filmmakers whose work is contributing to the growing visibility and diversity of Roma narratives in European cinema.

Amaro Kino is part of ERIAC’s ongoing commitment to supporting and promoting Roma voices in film. By securing the presence of these works to festivals and cultural programmes across Europe, the initiative creates opportunities for Roma filmmakers to reach new audiences and for Roma stories to be seen on their own terms, told by the communities they represent.

The Kyiv International Short Film Festival is Ukraine’s largest platform for short-form cinema, drawing audiences and filmmakers from across the region. The 22 September screening of Amaro Kino extends the programme’s reach and continues ERIAC’s mission to position Romani cinema within major European cultural events.
