AMARO KINO Brings Romani Cinema to the Bucharest Feminist Film Festival

On 20 September 2026, the Bucharest Feminist Film Festival (BFFF) welcomes Romani cinema into a conversation around community, identity and resilience. AMARO KINO, ERIAC’s curated selection of Romani cinema, will be presented alongside an extensive programme of international feature-length and short films running from 17 to 20 September.

The Bucharest Feminist Film Festival (BFFF) is an international film festival founded in Bucharest in 2021, dedicated to feminist perspectives, gender equality and social justice. The festival programme includes screenings, discussions and public events involving filmmakers, activists, journalists, researchers, policymakers, and students from Romania and abroad.

Through film and public dialogue, BFFF addresses gender stereotypes, gender-based violence, discrimination and the impact of patriarchal structures on society. The festival supports critical discussion and connects cultural production with activism, education and social change.

On September 20, from 18:45, the Bucharest Feminist Film Festival invites Romani stories on screen at Muzeul Țăranului Cinema for its sixth edition dedicated to the topic of community. Get your ticket here.

AMARO KINO is ERIAC’s travelling short film programme showcasing recent works by emerging Roma filmmakers and collaborators. The programme features The Angry Bird by Jack Lilleywhite, The Exhibition by Dáša Raimanová and Béla Váradi, The Gift by Lara Izagirre Garizurieta, and Fifteen Minutes by Sejad Ademaj.

The films move between documentary and fiction, covering Roma life and experience across Europe, from personal stories of identity and artistic expression to the everyday realities and challenges many Roma families still face. The 2026 selection presents a new generation of filmmakers, whose work adds to a growing body of Roma stories being told in European cinema.
