Tajsa Prize 2025 – Nominations Now Open for the Roma Cultural Award

September 15 – October 15, 2025

The Tajsa Prize reflects ERIAC’s founding values and celebrates the depth of Roma history and culture, while championing new, future-facing forms of Roma artistic expression. It recognizes exceptional Roma individuals who are among today’s leading cultural voices, and aims to foster Roma pride by highlighting the imagination, excellence, and talent of Roma creators.

The prize is awarded every two years and is financed by ERIAC associate members, embodying Roma contribution and self-determination.

 

The 2025 endowment is €10,000.

 

Who Can Be Nominated (Eligibility)

  • A Roma individual (from any group of Roma people) working in arts and culture or knowledge production.
  • No restrictions based on nationality, age, gender, or sexual orientation.
  • Public nominations are welcome; anyone may nominate.

Not Eligible

  • Self-nominations.
  • Past Tajsa laureates.
  • Members of the Barvalipe Academy and ERIAC Board (to avoid conflicts of interest).

  • Visual arts (painting, sculpture, installation)
  • Film & moving image (cinema, video, animation)
  • Photography & design (graphic, product, fashion)
  • Performing arts (theatre, performance)
  • Dance & music (composition, performance, sound)
  • Literature & poetry (fiction, non-fiction)
  • Media & storytelling (journalism, podcasting, producing)
  • Scholarship & critical practice (research, knowledge production, cultural critique)

Selection Process

A 5-member international Jury:

  • 1 ERIAC Board representative,
  • 3 Barvalipe Academy members,
  • ERIAC’s Executive Director,

reviews all eligible nominations and selects five finalists. Finalists will be publicly presented by ERIAC. The winner is then chosen by a broader voting body consisting of the ERIAC Board (5), Barvalipe Academy (15), and the Executive Director, via anonymous ballot. The laureate will be revealed at the Tajsa Prize Ceremony on November 29, 2025, at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest.

The 2025 Tajsa Cultural Heritage Prize Ceremony is co-financed by the Federal Foreign Office and the European Commission within the framework of the ERIACNET4EU project, alongside ERIAC.
