ERIAC Hosts “Roma (in) Filmmaking” Panel Discussion at Cannes Film Festival 2024
The European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture, in partnership with Think-Film Impact, proudly presents the “Roma (in) Filmmaking” panel discussion, on Wednesday, May 16 at 14:00, featured as a highlight of the Marché du Film at the 77th Cannes Festival.
In addressing the pervasive stereotypes in media depictions of Europe’s largest minority, the Roma community, comprising Sinti, Manouches, Gitano, and Travellers, we emphasize the collective responsibility of the film industry. We advocate for structural reforms and incentives within the industry to counter these damaging narratives, thereby fostering inclusivity and authenticity in filmmaking.
The discussion If you’re in search of transformative and compelling stories, eager to explore innovative donor initiatives or unconventional fundraising methods to promote minority inclusion, or in need of specialized consultancy for a film project featuring Roma or other European minorities, we’ve got you covered.
The panel features a diverse lineup of speakers including Fatih Abay, Diversity and Inclusion Officer at the European Film Academy; Timea Junghaus from the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture; Vera Láckova, Producer, Director, and Founder of Media Voice; and Simon Perry, Senior Consultant at ACE Producers. Dr. Dwayne Menezes, Board Member of Think-Film Impact Production, will moderate the discussion.
For those interested in attending the panel discussion and other events at the Cannes Festival, the schedule can be found on the Marché du Film website. Additionally, the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC) will be participating in Cannes from May 15th to May 19th and welcomes meetings with film professionals. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage in crucial conversations and explore avenues for meaningful collaboration in the realm of filmmaking and cultural representation.
