Timisoara Biennale
From 22nd to 24th of October 2019, ERIAC attended the third edition of Art Encounters Biennial in Timișoara, Romania curated by Maria Lind and Anca Rujoiu.
The Art Encounters Biennial in Timisoara is a cross between an experimental art festival and a contemporary art biennial. It focuses on extensive curatorial research which engages in meaningful dialogues with the historical and the socio-cultural contexts of the city of Timișoara. The mission of the biennial is to become a creative meeting point for artists, communities, institutions, and ideas. The third edition of the biennial continues the mission of engaging a wide audience in a debate on the main topics of today’s society, creating a vibrant platform for cultural exchange between the art scenes in Romania and those abroad.
Timea Junghaus, executive director of ERIAC and Delia Grigore, Roma scholar and member of the ERIAC Barvalipe Academy, read together with members of the Romanian Roma community and with the audience, extracts from the essay by the Roma feminist author Ethel Brooks. The series of collective readings is grounded on the merits of the communal production of meaning and a diversity of reading methods and materials. It served as the basis of the discussion on the Roma contribution to art during the Biennial. The third edition of the biennial continued the mission of engaging a wide audience in a debate on the main topics of today’s society, creating a vibrant platform for cultural exchange between the art scenes in Romania and abroad.
