19.00 Sinti_ze Jazz

Großes Haus, Volksbühne

Riah Knight, Rosenberg Trio, Sandro Roy & Jermaine Landsberger Trio feat. Giovanni Weiss, Lauenberger Quartet feat. TAYO

Sinti_ze Jazz is a curated selection of the “bests” of contemporary Sinti Jazz. It brings together the leading musicians mixing contemporary and traditional sounds from diverse Roma/Sinti communities. The Berlin-based jazz quartet of Janko Lauenberger interprets pieces by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli in the spirit of the 1930s era. The Sandro Roy Quintet, with Jermaine Landsberger and Giovanni Weiss, performs a unique combination of classical and jazz with traditional gypsy sounds. The world-famous Rosenberg Trio arrives from the Netherlands. Inspired by Django Reinhardt, they broaden their oeuvre with classical, pop and bossa nova in gypsy swing style. The young and virtuoso women’s voices of Berlin’s Roma jazz scene, the UK-born Riah Knight, and the German-Nigerian Afro-Sinti Tayo Awosusi-Onutor also join the evening programme. This cultural evening, set for the International Day of Human Rights, celebrates the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR).
