On October 17, dr. Iulius Rostas, ERIAC Board Member, gave a lecture during the International Seminar on Countering Distortion and Protecting the Civil and Human Rights of Roma in Bucharest. Dr. Rostas presentation focused on “Practical Application: Lessons Learned from the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture”.
The four-day regional seminar Countering Distortion through Governmental Action: Building the Capacity of Government Actors for Promoting and Protecting the Civil and Human Rights of Roma, is organized from 15 – 18 October 2019 by AIPR with the support of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) and aims to bring together participants from 11 states in Southeastern Europe, in addition to an international and interdisciplinary instructor team.
The workshop gave participants (mainly government officials from the Departments for Minorities, but also NGO -directors) the opportunity to engage in interactive and dynamic group exercises, where they produce possible policy responses to contemporary conditions. It also provided the space for an international exchange of best practices continued and furthered through its incorporation into the working agenda of the future Mediterranean Basin Network for Atrocity Crimes Prevention, an emerging informal network of States throughout Southeastern Europe dedicated to regional cooperation for atrocity prevention.
AIPR has been working since 2006 on a global scale to apply the knowledge, experience, and research of the world’s leading atrocity prevention experts to specialized training and technical assistance programs for government officials to build State capacity for atrocity prevention. With regional offices in New York (USA), Oświęcim (Poland), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Kampala (Uganda), and soon in Bucharest (Romania), AIPR works with government officials across the globe to empower them with the necessary information, tools, and networking capacities to design, implement, and sustain effective policies that prevent genocide and other mass atrocities.
