Dr. Maria Bogdan is a media theorist. Her main research interest is related to media representation and modern racism. She defended her PhD thesis at the Film, Media and Cultural Theory Doctoral Program of Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. Her dissertation was about the media representation of the Roma in Hungary. She is a Fulbright Alumna and has done part of her PhD research at Columbia University in the City of New York. She was a research fellow at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (2014-2017) and was an assistant lecturer at the University of Pécs (2006-2013). As a journalist, she worked at different media organizations, like the first Roma radio station ‘Radio C’ in Hungary. Currently she is a visiting researcher fellow at CEU Romani Studies Program and the editor of the Critical Romani Studies journal. She is member of the ERCF Board which runs Gallery8 – the first Roma contemporary art space in Hungary.
