HAJDE TE KHELAS – ERIAC Dance Contest
Hajde Te Khelas – ERIAC Dance Contest called all Roma experts of dance, movement art and choreography, who perform alone, in pairs or in bigger groups from all over the world to present the virtuosity and diversity of Roma dance heritage passed on from generation to generation by applying with a short dance video.
ERIAC received over 66 videos from 132 dancers from 19 countries and engaged over a million Facebook views between June 8 and July 10, 2020.
The finalists of the competition were selected by the international jury members Isaac Blake, Rosamaria Kostic Cisneros, Toby Gorniak, Belen Maya, Sani Rifati and Attila Szanto. The jury watched all videos and chose their 3 favourites, the result was a list of 13 artists which each jury member had to grade following the criteria the guidelines established:
- restoring traditional dance moves and forms;
- virtuosity of movement, and expression of emotions through dance;
- intention of choreography and presentation;
- authenticity of movements of certain regional traditions;
- reinvention of Roma dance heritage in contemporary dance and movement art.
From the 13 dancers, 10 became finalists, being the three first with the highest grades the winners of the contest! An additional prize was given to the video with more views from the Facebook audience.

Hajde Te Khelas is a merit-based dance competition which considers the following criteria:
- restoring traditional dance moves and forms;
- virtuosity of movement, and expression of emotions through dance;
- intention of choreography and presentation;
- authenticity of movements of certain regional traditions;
- reinvention of Roma dance heritage in contemporary dance and movement art.

The international expert jury will select 10 winners:
1st PRIZE – 1500€
2nd PRIZE – 1000€
3rd PRIZE – 700€
Remaining 7 finalists will receive an endowment of 250€.
The video with the most views on Facebook receives the Audience Award with an endowment of 1000€!
HOW TO APPLY?
Please read the instructions carefully
- Video shall be maximum 2 minutes long;
- Dance alone, with your friends or with your family;
- Each performer can apply only once (with one video);
- The video has to be recorded after the publication of this call (after June 8);
- The videos will be uploaded on ERIAC’s Facebook channel. Share and like the video to receive the audience award!
- We kindly ask for original creations;
- Videos which use copyrighted music might be muted automatically by Facebook due to copyrights infringement, but will still stay part of the contest.

Other ways of submissions are not eligible.
The videos need to be submitted by June 30, 2020, 18:00 CET
FILE FORMAT: Send an original file (MP4 or MOV), existing Youtube or other links are not eligible.[1]
The following information needs to be submitted with your video:
- Name of the artist(s) or dance group
- Your email address
- City and country of residence
- Dance style
- Information you know about the origin or tradition of the dance you perform
Who will judge?
An international expert jury will decide about the awards
Names of the jury members:
- Isaac Blake (dancer, choreographer, Executive Director of the Romani Cultural & Arts Company in Cardiff)
- Rosamaria Kostic Cisneros (dancer, dance historian and critic, research fellow at Coventry University’s Centre for Dance Research)
- Toby Gorniak MBE (dancer, Co-Founder-CEO of Street Factory)
- Belen Maya (Spanish flamenco dancer, choreographer and educator)
- Sani Rifati (drummer, singer, dancer and dance instructor)
- Attila Szanto (choreographer, dancer and leader of the Romanian RomaFest)
The jury shall decide about the winners based on:
- Virtuosity in traditional or contemporary dance
- Creativity
- Coordination
- Rhythm
- Originality
- Demonstration of Roma dance heritage and talent
Deadline
Videos can be submitted from June 8, 2020 until June 30, 2020, 18:00h CET. Please note, videos submitted after this deadline can´t be accepted.
Winners announced on July 20, 2020 and endowments handed out (transferred) by beginnings of August!
