Open Call: Romani Language Teachers, Translators, Interpreters

ERIAC invites teachers, translators and interpreters for Romani language to apply!

ERIAC would like to bring together Roma teachers that have experience in teaching and developing teaching materials in Romani language, translators and interpreters for the Romani to facilitate communication, connection and cooperation at an international level and to keep record for future cooperation with ERIAC and other partner institutions.

The deadline for applications is: DECEMBER 15, 2020.

Scope of the initiative:

• development of future projects for Romani language at international level;
• ensuring qualitative teaching, translations/ interpretations in Romani by Roma professionals;
• facilitate cooperation between Roma teachers and exchange teaching resources at international level;
• promoting qualified Roma human resources;
• facilitate their participation in trainings/ qualifications;
• promote the diversity of the Romani language and develop unity and cooperation among Romani language professionals.

TEACHERS – Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from foreign language universities, if possible in Romani;
• Certification to teach and proven experience in teaching;
• Able to plan, prepare and deliver lessons in Romani language as well as information related to Roma culture;
• Able to prepare teaching materials;
• Strong grammar knowledge and writing in Romani;
• Capable to help learners improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills via individual and group session;
• Able to check and asses learner work;
• Knowledge of more dialects of Romani is an asset;
• Amateur Romani language teachers are invited to apply and mention what studies / experience they have.

TRANSLATORS – Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher from foreign language universities;
• Fluency in at least two Languages;
• Written and verbal communication;
• Strong grammar knowledge;
• Translate both spoken word and written texts to the target language with superior accuracy, consistency and efficiency
• Ability to translate a variety of documents including literary, legal, research, technical, scientific, educational, and commercial materials;
• Accuracy and attention to details;
• Knowledge of more dialects of Romani is an asset;
• Amateur Romani language translators are invited to apply and mention what studies / experience they have.

INTERPRETERS:

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher from foreign language universities;
• Certification for interpretation;
• Native speaker of Romani and proficient in at least one national/foreign language;
• Exemplary ability to communicate verbally between many people;
• Strong social skills and ability to mitigate language barriers;
• Interpret to the target language with superior accuracy, consistency and efficiency;
• Communicate in a friendly, positive manner and always engage in active listening techniques to maximize effectiveness of interpretation
• Lead conversations between multilingual groups to communicate important ideas and mitigate the effects of a language barrier;
• Knowledge of more dialects of Romani is an asset.
• Amateur Romani language interpreters are invited to apply and mention what studies / experience they have.
