OPEN CALL | Your HistoryLab for New Perspectives

Ever heard of the “Schlussstrich” (drawing a line under something)? The Nazi era is over—but the questions about it remain. What endures? And how do we tell this story today? These questions deserve fresh perspectives—yours. The EVZ Foundation’s HistoryLab gives you the space, the exchange, and the tools to turn your questions into your own historical project—creative, critical, and impactful.

What Awaits You

You’ll start with a live kick-off from August 22 to 25 in Thuringia. There, you’ll meet the other participants, get initial inspiration, and develop your project idea.

From September to December, the program continues digitally. You’ll work on your own project—with expert support, practical know-how, financial backing, and a strong community.

Through digital learning modules and hands-on exercises, you’ll explore questions like:

  • How does language shape our understanding of history?

  • How do I recognize manipulated narratives?

  • What works on social media—and why?

  • And how does an idea become a project that truly makes a difference?

The final meeting in January 2026 brings everyone back together to wrap up the course. You’ll present your project and showcase what you’ve achieved.

Your Project, Your Implementation

The goal is to make history visible, spark new discussions, and reach others—in creative, reflective, and contemporary ways. What you learn, you’ll apply directly to your project. Together with your team, you’ll develop an idea that holds weight—with a clear plan, honest feedback, and professional guidance. Then, it’s time for execution: whether it’s a social media campaign, workshop, or exhibition—your topic shapes the format.

The most compelling projects will have the chance to pitch for funding of up to €1,000.

How the Application Works

Application period: Until June 30, 2025
Apply directly on the EVZ Foundation’s website—with two short texts or videos (each max. 2 minutes):

  1. What do you want to achieve?
Tell why you want to join HistoryLab. What topics matter to you—and why?

  2. What’s your idea?
Pitch your first project idea. It doesn’t have to be perfect—what matters is why it interests you and where you want to take it. You’ll develop everything further during the course.

By July 30, you’ll be notified about the selection results.

Community and Exchange

The HistoryLab is more than just knowledge—it’s a growing community: a network of young people supporting each other, learning together, and developing new paths for remembrance culture. This is how an idea reaches others—and creates impact.

And it doesn’t end there: As part of the alumni community, you’ll stay connected—with fellow participants, the EVZ Foundation, and the field of remembrance culture.

You can keep networking, contribute new ideas, or even mentor the next generation in the HistoryLab.
