Announcing the 2024 Roma Holocaust Voices Fellowship Recipients”

In a significant step toward preserving Roma and Sinti historical memory, ERIAC and the Fortunoff Archive are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2024 Roma Holocaust Voices Fellowship. Launched in commemoration of the International Roma Holocaust Remembrance Day, this fellowship initiative supports essential work in transcription, translation, and creative projects that highlight the testimonies of Roma and Sinti survivors of the Holocaust.

The Roma Holocaust Voices Fellowship provides an invaluable opportunity for researchers, translators, and creators to engage with rare archival materials. By preserving, transcribing, and creatively interpreting these testimonies, this year’s fellows will contribute to both Holocaust remembrance and Roma historical awareness.

2024 Fellowship Awardees

Transcription Fellowship: Sára Danielová, Michal Mižigár – tasked with transcribing survivor testimonies in Romanes (Czechoslovak dialect)

Translation Fellowship: Melinda Vajda, Bc. Iveta Kokyová – responsible for translating the transcribed testimonies into English.

These fellows will transform the testimonies of Roma and Sinti survivors into accessible and impactful resources that serve a broad spectrum of audiences, including researchers, educators, and artists. Their work will contribute significantly to Holocaust education and the visibility of Roma and Sinti experiences in historical narratives.

ERIAC and the Fortunoff Archive commend the fellows for their commitment to honoring and preserving Roma voices of the Holocaust.
