We are delighted by the news from the Visual Arts Department of La Biennale di Venezia, approving the Roma Exhibition project, Collateral Event in the frame of the 59th International Art Exhibition. We congratulate artist Eugen Raportoru and curator Ilina Schileru on this milestone. For the fourth time in history, Roma visual arts are inhibiting important spaces in Venice!

The Abduction from the Seraglio by Romanian artist of Roma origin Eugen Raportoru, provides us with a radical reading of the past and scrutinizes the ongoing mystification, exoticism, feminisation, sexualisation and criminalisation of the Roma body in dominant Western societies.

With the connecting programming elements Roma Women – Performativity and the Politics of Healing and Listening, a series of interventions, actions, performances and events are curated to assemble and reflect on the respect for diversity within the Roma cultures and the audience is invited to actively participate in the site-specific installations of the Roma Exhibition”.
